REAL LIFE, FUN-SIZED.
Step aside SNL, Little Britain and MADtv! indicinelive! (in-DEE-see-nee-live-!) is klpac's brand-new sketch comedy premise, parodying the ofttimes crazy society that we live in. Featuring an ensemble of serious comic writers and players every episode, indicinelive! features familiar characters in even more familiar situations, with a few musical numbers thrown in too! indicinelive! is, essentially, a generous serving of how we see the world in fun-sized pieces.
Directed by klpac's director-in-residence Kelvin Wong, indicinelive! opened its 2010 season in April, playing to packed houses with after-requests for second and third helpings.
And so we're back with Episode Two for Season 2010!
SHOWNIGHTS: July 21st - 25th @ 8.30 pm
with additional MATINEES on July 24th - 25th @ 3.00 pm
at klpac's Indicine

WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU!
indicinelive! is on the hunt for 3 – 4 actors (who can carry a tune well) and 1 – 2 writers to join the current indicinelive! ensemble for Episode Two. We're also looking for a new production and creative team consisting of managers, designers and builders – scroll below for details!
WHAT WILL THE REHEARSAL SCHEDULE BE LIKE?
Rehearsals for indicinelive! - Episode Two will commence May 22nd, taking place on weekday (Monday, Wednesday) nights and weekend (Saturday, Sunday) evening/nights.
I'M INTERESTED TO BE PART OF THE ENSEMBLE CAST. WHAT IS REQUIRED OF ME?
You're 18 and above as of 2010; you're ready for the rigorous, disciplined craft that is the theatre; you're inquisitive about the actor's/writer's craft and are ready to explore, fumble, discover and learn; you're socially, politically and pop culturally aware of the world you live in; you're ready to work, contribute and grow as a creative team; you're ready to fully commit yourself to the entire rehearsal schedule; and in the creative training process, you're ready for that giant bowl of fun.
Put simply, indicinelive! means serious business!
WHAT DO I PREPARE FOR ENSEMBLE CAST AUDITIONS?
Aspiring ensemble cast auditionees are required to prepare:
- one interpretation of a contemporary monologue from a comedic play or film† in English of 1 - 2 minutes;
- two different portrayals of specific Malaysian caricatures* of 30 seconds each;
- two different portrayals of specific non-Malaysian caricatures* of 30 seconds each;
- a musical number, a cappella, of 30 seconds; and
- an optional presentation of your other abilities (acrobatics, dance, mime, magic tricks, accents, juggling, clowning, musical instruments, etc.) of 1 minute
†stand-up routines, improvised or otherwise, are not permitted
*a comic exaggeration of a stereotype or a known character/personality; i.e. a talkshow host, a Malaysian cab driver, an 'aunty', a Mat Rempit, the boss of a kopitiam, a Middle-Eastern businessman, a local politician, a professional wrestler, a news anchor, a pirated DVD peddler, etc.
BUT I WANT TO WRITE INSTEAD!
Aspiring writers should anticipate working under very tight deadlines, be able to find a sense of humour in their writing, are required to bring along to the interview:
- a 2 – 3 paged* scene of a Malaysian parody;
- a 2 – 3 paged* scene of a non-Malaysian parody; and
- a 1 – 2 paged* musical version using an existing popular tune† of either one of the scenes above
*12-point Georgia, single-spaced; A4-sized
†mainstream, folk, traditional, or any tune deemed recognizable by the general Malaysian public
MAY I ATTEND THE AUDITION FOR ENSEMBLE CAST AND INTERVIEW FOR WRITERS?
Definitely. You'll be slotted into one session encompassing both the audition and interview, and you'll have to prepare material for both, as stated above.
I DON'T WANT TO ACT NOR WRITE - HOW ELSE CAN I GET INVOLVED?
indicinelive! - Episode Two is banding together a strong production and creative team, encompassing
- production/stage managers
- set and prop designers and builders
- wardrobe and make-up designers
Individuals who would like to take on the roles above (you may also be interested in more than one!) are required to bring along their related résumés (if applicable) to the interview.
DO I GET PAID?
indicinelive! fully operates on a profit-sharing basis among its ensemble, production and creative team members from a percentage of ticket sales. If you're looking at making big bucks from your involvement with indicinelive! though, we'd suggest you wait tables at a watering hole instead, where you'll earn a lot more in a lesser span of time.
DO I NEED PRIOR EXPERIENCE WORKING IN THE THEATRE?
Prior experience in all aspects of the theatre would definitely help you, but is not a prerequisite for auditions nor induction into the ensemble, production, or creative team. In fact, indicinelive! is always looking for fresh, young blood – provided they come by with their minds, bodies and hearts in the right places.
MAY I ATTEND AUDITIONS/INTERVIEWS FOR BOTH INDICINELIVE! - EPISODE TWO AS WELL AS AFTER JULIET?
Because both projects are being embarked on by the same director, you're more than welcomed to attend the auditions/interviews for both projects, as rehearsal/performance dates and times will not clash. Bear in mind though, that you'll be required to prepare accordingly for both auditions/interviews, and that indicinelive! and After Juliet are two different, unrelated creative premises.
